Designed by Chapman Taylor's Madrid studio, the Mall of Qatar has officially opened its doors to the public after its soft opening on Saturday the 10th of December.
The 500,000 sq.m mega mall, features 500 shops, including more than 100 food and beverage restaurants, a 19-screen theatre complex, 7,000 underground and surface car parking spaces and a five-star 200-bedroom hotel operated by Curio, a collection by Hilton.
At the heart of Mall of Qatar is the 'Oasis', a 5,000sqm landscaped entertainment arena featuring interactive fountains and waterfalls. It is also home to the world's first resident troupe, which offers mall-wide entertainment 52 weeks of the year. The Oasis is covered by a 30m-high, 6,000sqm glass dome supported by four large 'green' pillars, and also showcases 'MoQ Live', a free entertainment programme on a 360º revolving stage. The Oasis is surrounded by a 2,600 seating capacity food court.
The 2,700 seat Megaplex cinema includes IMAX's revolutionary laser projection with a 12 channel immersive sound system on the region's largest screen, 28 meters wide by 15 meters high. The cinema features the latest 4D projection technology screen, VIP screens, an 8-lane bowling alley, and in-theatre gourmet food services.
"The Mall of Qatar is one of the largest shopping centre's to open anywhere in the world in 2016 and Chapman Taylor are immensely proud to have designed this world-class retail and leisure destination. The Oasis pushes the boundaries of 'experience' retail by bringing the concept of retailtainment to life. It sets a new standard for shopping malls in the Middle East", said Chris Lanksbury, Director.
Mall of Qatar expects 20 million customers annually. Over 220 stores opened on its first day, 60% of the gross leasable area, with the remainder in fit-out phase. The Mall is already 99% leased.
