Adrian Griffiths writes about the future of multi-storey car parks in an age of rapid change
Main Board Director Adrian Griffiths has written an Insight paper examining how our conception of the nature and role of multi-storey car parks (MSCPs) is set to be transformed in the coming years.
Technological advances and changes in public policy and social awareness are changing the way we use private transport, particularly cars, and MSCP designers and operators need to adapt to those changes.
With the rise of electric vehicles, the increasing sophistication of mobile apps, the possibility of self-driving / self-parking vehicles and the desire to unclog our town and city centres, our relationship with cars is evolving at a rapid rate.
Adrian argues that MSCPs are going to face great challenges in the next 20 years, but that those challenges also bring opportunities to rethink how we design, build and use those spaces, particularly in our urban centres.
Chapman Taylor – which has expertise in meticulous operational space planning, in the installation of digital technology, and in repurposing built environments for a wide mix of uses – is ideally placed to meet the challenges and opportunities that those changes will present.
