Brent Cross West Station wins a Pineapple Award 2024
Brent Cross West Station in Barnet, London, has been awarded a Pineapple 2024 Award in the Infrastructure category.
The Pineapples Awards celebrate the very best in placemaking and place-led initiatives in the UK. The Awards attract hundreds of submissions from developers, architects, and engineers. These entries are evaluated by a panel of industry experts who consider both social and environmental impacts. Each project is also visited by at least one judge.
Brent Cross West is the first mainline station to open in London in over a decade and is the first rail infrastructure project delivered by a local authority in England. The project secured £419 million in government funding for the development of a 650 sq m site with four platforms. The station is a gateway to Brent Cross Town, a 73-hectare, £8 billion net-zero park town being developed in partnership with Related Argent.
Judges’ comments: “Infrastructure is at its best when it makes a wider impact beyond immediate and physical connections. Brent Cross West station acts as a model for future rail infrastructure projects by integrating the social, environmental and cultural aspects of the place into the project”
Delivered by Chapman Taylor and WSP, Brent Cross West Station combines modern aesthetics with functional efficiency, enhancing the travel experience for passengers commuting to Central London or airports such as Luton and Gatwick. Its proximity to the Brent Cross shopping centre adds convenience for Thameslink network travellers.
