Chapman Taylor is designing a state-of-the-art mixed-use development in the heart of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

Chapman Taylor has been appointed to design a prominent new mixed-use urban development, Al Hamra, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Al Hamra is made up of a series of urban spaces which provide a dynamic experience for visitors. It incorporates 70,000m² GLA of retail provision, 14,500m² GBA of office space and a 15,900m² GBA 4-star hotel, served by a 1,830-space car park.

The design recreates the feeling of a vibrant urban streetscape which is carried through to the retail interior, with a wide variety of shopfronts, urban furniture and a broad palette of materials conveying a fresh and modern atmosphere based on a theme of ‘urban downtown’. The local climate and local building materials are central to planning Al Hamra’s delivery.

Chapman Taylor is designing the development in collaboration with Yasser Alhakbani, CEO of Rumoz Consulting Engineers.
