Chapman Taylor create competition-winning design for former Hotel Kyjev in Bratislava, Slovakia
Chapman Taylor has won an asset enhancement design competition for the remodelling of the façades of the well-known former Hotel Kyjev building in the Slovak capital, Bratislava.
The former Hotel Kyjev is a landmark tower in the city which has been derelict for a number of years. Chapman Taylor’s design for its regeneration as a high-quality residential building creates a striking and modern façade which combines bold geometric shapes, elegant detailing and extensive glazing.
The façade design is flexible, to accommodate changes in the internal arrangements, if required. The use of deep balconies and vertical walls also helps make the building more sustainable by providing it with abundant natural light all year round while controlling solar heat gains during the summer months.
The transparent nature of the façade helps give the impression of a seamless transition between the interior spaces and the surrounding environment – bringing the outside in and enhancing the wellbeing of the future occupants.
The design transforms a long-neglected landmark in the centre of Bratislava, enhancing the environment and bringing life back to this key location within the city.
Chapman Taylor has a growing portfolio of residential work across the world, designing and delivering flexible and sustainable living spaces which form the basis of vibrant and attractive communities.
