Chapman Taylor creates interior design for Future Land Changchun shopping centre in China
Chapman Taylor is designing the interiors at Future Land Changchun shopping centre, in China’s Jilin Province.
The 240,000m2 GBA mall, which will open in June 2020, will deliver a new, experiential shopping destination with a design concept inspired by local ecology. Its six levels house four distinctly themed areas – tropical, city green, mountain and wetland – each centred on their own entrance atriums.
The tropical atrium contains a large greenhouse balcony at fifth floor level, which is partially open to capitalise on the excellent views from there. The city green atrium will host outdoor activities and events, while the mountain atrium design is inspired by the triangular shape of Changchun’s Lianhua Mountain and three mountain cabins. The wetland atrium is flooded with mood changing lighting that changes dependent on the time of day and contains a large dining area at ground floor level which incorporates water features and a large windmill-shaped installation.
Chapman Taylor won a design competition held by the client, Future Land Development Holdings Ltd, in July 2018, and has now developed the design for the construction stage.
