Chapman Taylor unveils design for Sanlian River Bridge in Shanghai
Chapman Taylor has revealed its innovative design for the Sanlian River Bridge, a new landmark that will span the Liuwu Highway and Sanlian River in Shanghai’s Songjiang District.
Strategically located north of Chenhua Road, the bridge connects key areas within the Songjiang New City green ring and is a vital link between the northern industrial park and the southern residential and commercial districts.
A design rooted in nature
The project embraces a “Forest in full bloom” concept, drawing inspiration from the area’s rich natural resources. Guided by Songjiang New City’s green vision principles, the design respects the region’s existing woodlands, farmland, and forested areas.
This philosophy integrates natural landscapes and ecological resources into the bridge’s structure, enhancing the area’s identity and sustainability.
Beyond connectivity
While the bridge primarily facilitates pedestrian and non-motorised vehicle traffic, it also transforms Songjiang’s ecological and recreational space. The design fosters a harmonious relationship between humans, infrastructure, and nature, creating a symbolic and functional addition to the area's green ecosystem.
