Chapman Taylor and Shearer Property Group win Future Cities award for Coventry City Centre South
Chapman Taylor, together with Shearer Property Group, have scooped the Future Cities Forum Winter 2021 award in the masterplanning category. The judges awarded based on sustainability, outstanding design and integration with the wider city.
Judge Claire McColgan MBE, Director of Culture Liverpool, said, “This is a real step-change for Coventry’s city centre”. Fellow judge Pip Simpson, Director of Design, Estate and Public Programme at Victoria and Albert Museum, added, “The Coventry masterplan is timely and needed and comes with a sensitivity for the environment”.
Envisaged as a new focal point for Coventry’s communities to come together, City Centre South scheme gained planning approval in April 2021.
The scheme, which has already secured £98m in funding from the West Midlands Combined Authority, includes Bull Yard, Shelton Square, Market Way and City Arcade. Developer, Shearer Property Group, aims to deliver new homes, a hotel, cinema, retail and restaurants along with co-working and community spaces. There will be inviting new public realm and accessible events spaces at its heart.
