Chapman Taylor's design concept for the expansion of Yibin Li Zhuang in China
Chapman Taylor proudly presents its concept masterplan for expanding the Yibin Li Zhuang town area in China. Spanning 553 hectares, this project—developed for the People’s Government of Cuiping District—seamlessly integrates heritage conservation, modern functionality, and sustainable urbanism.
As one of the most historic towns along the Yangtze River, Li Zhuang is renowned for its scholarly heritage, architectural elegance, and scenic beauty.
Chapman Taylor’s urban design strategy focuses on six key principles to guide the town’s evolution:
- Cultural Preservation – Honoring Li Zhuang’s historical and academic significance.
- Heritage Continuity – Safeguarding the town’s unique urban fabric and traditional lifestyle.
- Landscape Integration – Weaving the natural beauty of mountains and rivers into the urban realm.
- Riverfront Enrichment – Enhancing the Yangtze River’s edge with diverse spaces and activities.
- Functional Urbanism – Creating a dynamic, mixed-use environment that supports local life.
- Sustainable Mobility – Promoting walkability and eco-friendly transportation for both residents and tourists.
The urban design concept seamlessly blends historic character with modern innovation, guiding visitors through lush green spaces, cultural landmarks, and vibrant town centres. Inspired by Yibin’s rich traditions, the masterplan embraces red culture, classical architecture, and tea heritage while incorporating slow-travel tourism routes that invite exploration at a leisurely pace.
Through this holistic approach, Chapman Taylor’s design ensures that Li Zhuang’s historic charm and natural beauty remain at the heart of its transformation, creating a sustainable and thriving future for future generations.
