Construction advancing at Vanke Kunming Shopping Centre in Kunming, China
Construction is well under way at the 50,400m2 GBA Vanke Kunming shopping centre in the Chinese city of Kunming, for which Chapman Taylor has provided the interior design.
Kunming, the capital of Yunnan Province, is known as 'the City of Eternal Spring' for its pleasant climate and flowers that bloom all year long within a dramatic landscape of red soils, karst caves and limestone forests. Our interior design, covering an area of 29,200m2, is inspired by these local features, with each main area focusing on a related theme.
The entrance area is themed as the “Aura of Kunming”, designed to resemble a butterfly guiding people inside, while an area themed as the “Atmosphere of Kunming” is designed to reflect the stunning landscape of the region. Meanwhile, the “Eyes of Kunming”-themed area is designed to honour the cultural history of Kunming and an area themed as the “Scenery of Kunming” is provided with a sense of dynamism by a design which reflects the contours of the local terrain.
Warm wood grain colours provide a sense of relaxation and encourage people to dwell, with stronger materials or colours used as complementary design touches to light up the space.
Chapman Taylor designed the interiors of Vanke Kunming shopping centre for the well-known property development company Vanke, with whom we have collaborated on several projects across China. Construction is expected to complete in 2022.
