Construction set to begin on Lørenskog Winter Park in Norway
Construction is set to begin on Winter Park in Lørenskog, near Oslo, which is based on Chapman Taylor’s Concept Masterplan design, formerly known as 'Winter Village'.
Our design for the new SNØ ski hall, which will house both cross-country and downhill skiing, is already under construction and will be ready to open in 2020. It forms part of the wider Winter Park resort in Ødegården, situated next to Lørenskog train station, and will be the world's largest indoor ski hall when it opens.
The 140,000m² SNØ complex houses a 37,000m² ski resort, with a 505m ski-slope and lifts which can carry as many as 5,000 people per hour to the summit. The cross-country trails are built over three floors, giving skiers a total of 3,000 metres of cross-country skiing. The facility also includes a conference hotel with 350 rooms, a service centre for skis and equipment, service rooms for clubs and teams, classrooms and offices, as well as commercial premises and a sports academy for Norwegian ski sports.
With the nearest indoor ski centre located across the Swedish border in Torsby, Selvaag's ski arena will give summer skiing access to local people as well as elite athletes who need year-round training when it opens in 2019. All levels of experience, from beginner to professional, will be made welcome.
Chapman Taylor’s Madrid studio designed Lørenskog Winter Village in collaboration with the renowned Norwegian architect Prof. Thomas Thiis-Evensen. The developers, Selvaag, recognise Chapman Taylor's world-beating masterplanning expertise, including our previous work on the popular Madrid Snowdome at Madrid Xanadu Retail and Leisure Centre, which is why we were selected to work on this pioneering Norwegian scheme.
