Design unveiled for Auchan shopping centre extension at Rescaldina, Milan
Chapman Taylor’s design for the second phase of the Auchan shopping centre refurbishment in Rescaldina, near Milan, has been unveiled.
Phase two will create a 25,600m² extension building containing two new malls and piazzas – the ‘Forest’ and ‘Air’ galleries. A treetop pedestrian walkway through the adjacent grove of trees on one side of the centre will bring visitors in at first floor-level to the Forest gallery.
The design of those spaces will complement the ‘Water’ and ‘Mountain’ galleries designed by us for the existing centre (known as 'Porte dei Laghi', or ‘Doors to the Lakes’) – all combining to bring the natural colours and elements of the surrounding environment through the doors. This apparently seamless connection between the interior and the exterior is a key focal point and symbol of the renewed development.
Chapman Taylor designed both phases of the Auchan shopping centre development, including restyling the building façades.
Construction of the extension building is set to start in autumn 2019.
