Chapman Taylor’s cinema portfolio contains many of the most cutting-edge cinemas in the world, and our cinema design, fit-out and delivery work in London is testament to our industry-leading expertise. Having recently refurbished and extended the existing Cineworld 02 venue in London to help create the city’s largest cinema complex. Below are some examples of our state-of-the-art cinema schemes in the UK capital.
Cineworld 02, London, UK
Cineworld O2 is located in the most popular music and entertainment venue in the UK – the O2 Arena – and is served by a wide range of restaurants and bars, a large car park and excellent transport links.
Chapman Taylor was responsible for fitting out the existing 11 theatres, installing cutting-edge cinema projection systems, including a Screen X, refurbishing the lobbies and installing a large digital LED screen in the main lobby.
We then delivered the development’s extension fit-out for seven more cinemas, including a 4DX theatre and VIP cinemas, helping to deliver London's largest cinema. The extension opened to a warm welcome in April 2019.
Cineworld Leicester Square, London, UK
Cineworld Leicester Square, formerly Empire, is a world-famous cinema in the heart of London’s leading entertainment district. It has hosted many major film premieres and has welcomed leading movie actors, directors, celebrities and royals. Chapman Taylor’s Leisure team has refurbished the basement cinema to make it a 136-seat, 4DX motion theatre with high-tech motion seats and special effects including wind, fog, lightning, bubbles, water, rain and scents.
Chapman Taylor also delivered the innovative design by Innebo Architects in Warsaw for the refurbishment of the nine-screen cinema’s lobbies, bringing the highest standards of finishing, including LED screen technologies, and providing a fitting welcome for VIPs stepping off the red carpet.
Cineworld Wandsworth, London, UK
Providing a revolutionary cinematic experience which stimulates all five senses, London's first 4DX cinema includes high-tech motion seats and special effects including wind, fog, lightning, bubbles, water, rain and scents. Cineworld Wandsworth also includes the first large-format cinema ‘Superscreen’ in London, complete with 4K Dual projectors and an immersive sound system from Dolby ATMOS.
The 14-screen Cineworld Wandsworth renovation was completed in 2017, providing London with a new and transformative cinematic experience.
Eltham Cinema, London, UK
This new leisure destination brings a six-screen Vue Cinemas complex and restaurants to Eltham High Street in South London, in a striking building which will become a landmark for the town centre.
The cinema, which accommodates 731 standard seats and 126 VIP seats, is complemented by Pizza Express and Nando’s restaurants, the latter of which is already operating.
A ‘Sky Bar’ with an external seating terrace will wrap around the cinema, cantilevering and projecting animation onto the High Street and complementing the active street-level restaurant uses below. The curved corners to the building at Ground and First Floor levels give a subtle nod to the Art-Deco cinemas of the 1930s.
Chapman Taylor designed the shell within which Vue Cinemas will operate, and delivered it in collaboration with contractor Willmott Dixon. Eltham Cinema will act as a catalyst for the wider regeneration and increased prosperity of the area, providing a new focal point in Eltham town centre.
