Forum Sintra opens in Portugal
On Monday 11th April the Forum Sintra Shopping and Leisure complex, a development of over 165.000 m² for Multi Development, opened in Portugal. The Centre has already achieved 97% occupancy, and adds 52.000m² of leasable area to the commercial offer in the dense residential area adjacent to the localities of Sintra and Cascais.
The centre comprises of retail space, restaurants and leisure areas over three levels, as well as three underground parking floors. The internal area is supplemented by several outdoor terraces that provide breathtaking views of the surroundings.
The design concept, developed by Chapman Taylor España together with Portuguese architects, ARX, started from a premise of breaking away from the conventional assumptions of most shopping malls, and is considered a pilot study for a new generation of future commercial developments.
The building was envisaged as a series of juxtaposed diagonal malls, each with distinct themes, building systems and materials palette, generating unique spaces at their encounters and topped by sculptural skylights which generate the representative image of the shopping centre.
