Global: Chapman Taylor Design Competition 2015 - Winners
Chapman Taylor is famous for both creativity and our commercial design know-how. Fostering creativity in our team and instilling a great design ethos amongst our employees worldwide is therefore a key objective for Chapman Taylor.
So much so that each year Chapman Taylor holds an international internal design competition to inspire employees to create, communicate and connect with each other and most importantly with our clients.
This year the competition attracted employee contributions from our design studios in Bangkok, Brussels, London, Madrid, Milan, New Delhi, Paris, and Prague.
The requirement for the competition was to design an innovative ‘exhibition pavilion’ in a prominent city centre public space such as Place Vendome in Paris or Trafalgar square in London. Whilst the brief was entirely fictitious, the criteria needed to be met in order to enter was extremely demanding.
David Garcia, from our Madrid design studio, won 1st place with a competition entry themed around a ‘minimalist planet’. Closely followed, in 2nd place, by an entry themed around a vertical garden called ‘Sala Siam’ from a team comprised of Olly Barnard, Pimpakorn Invasa, Chinnapat Worakidcheumanee, Tunde Lenvai, Varin Charnyapornpong and Sarayut Janngam from our Bangkok design studio, and an interwoven leaves inspired submission by Alexandra Antonescu called ‘Interweave’ from our London studio took 3rd place.
The overall design standard this year was extremely high, making the judging criteria, as it is every year, very tough. Six people formed the judging panel, made up of senior directors, designers, architectural assistants and students, as well as an external judge, Lester Hampson from Land Securities, who bought an invaluable client perspective.
The judges would also like to award ‘Special Commendations’ to Gianluca Follo from Chapman Taylor in Milan and Pablo Oviedo from Chapman Taylor in Paris.
Yet again, the competition has revealed the depth of creative talent residing in the Chapman Taylor Group. Building on this momentum our challenge now is to ensure that this talent is developed to its full potential and ultimately translated through into the work we produce for clients.
Congratulations to everyone who was involved.
