UK: Heathrow Airport’s Terminal 2 opens for business
London’s Heathrow Airport opened its brand new Terminal 2 today. Chapman Taylor undertook two critical contracts to deliver the retail offer of the project. Firstly, we were Lead Consultant for the development of the Retail Design Guidelines, a 33 month project involving our team in London and our sub-consultant team from Rawls. Chapman Taylor undertook the full contract management from concept to completion.
Secondly we delivered the shell works on behalf of Carillion for the Luxury Retailing, including units for brands such as Bulgari, Harrods, Paul Smith and Hugo Boss, amongst others. All works were successfully completed on time for today’s opening.
Terminal 2 has a number of world firsts, including an airport debut for British high-street department store favourite John Lewis. In total there will be 33 retailers at the new terminal, including many iconic British brands, as well as 17 food and drink outlets.
Terminal 2 is a £2.5 billion project and marks the latest phase of an £11 billion private sector investment that has transformed Heathrow for passengers.
The new Terminal 2 has been named ‘The Queen’s Terminal’ and will receive a Royal opening on 23 June by Her Majesty the Queen.
