Hua Young City opens to the public in Xi’an, China
Hua Young City, the first large-scale, mixed-use development in eastern Xi’an, China, officially opened on 26th May.
Hua Young City sits at the north-west side of the East Changle Road and Fangwei Road junction in the city’s Baqiao District. The retail-led development scheme accommodates approximately 100,000m² GFA across nine floors, two of which are underground.
The shopping centre houses two large atrium spaces – the design of one focusing on the family, and the other on young couples. The mall plan is focused on open retail space, with a series of perimeter shops presenting open frontages onto an open central core to create a fluid, borderless shopping experience.
The areas of open retail on each level are designed to be flexible to encourage tenant creativity as well as to allow for change. The design also allows for pop-up tenants to bring variety to the mall and also to the landscaped outdoors areas to create a fresh and dynamic shopping environment.
Chapman Taylor designed the façade, interiors and landscape for this retail destination. Hua Young City’s opening day proved to be very popular, with a much higher number of visitors than expected.
