Level 10, Orange Building, shortlisted for a prestigious BCO Award

We are delighted to announce that the fit-out of Level 10 of the Orange Tower at MediaCity has been shortlisted for a British Council for Offices (BCO) Award. The 16,000 sqft workspace offers breathtaking panoramic views while providing an inspiring, flexible environment designed to meet the diverse needs of modern businesses. From thoughtful planning to seamless delivery by Consensus, every detail has been curated to ensure occupiers can move into a space that fosters creativity, productivity, and engagement.

The refurbishment is a response to more sophisticated occupier demands that reflect many emerging workplace trends:

Hospitality ApproachWorkplace experience is of prime importance to occupiers in property selection, creating a ‘hospitality’ approach that turns tenants into guests. This is reflected in the domestic and hospitality-influenced materials.

Flexible Engagement – Workplace providers see customers as an ongoing partnership, resulting in the emergence of ‘flex & core’ leases and more high-quality turnkey solutions as means of retaining tenants within their portfolios.

Covid cognisant – Enforced ‘working from home’ has had a profound influence on the workplace. Lessons learnt see the retention of the positive practices whilst allowing workplace design to focus on supporting the activities that impacted on remote working.

ESG Agenda – Sustainability and well-being criteria are profoundly affecting the workplace. Embodied and in-use carbon critically influence the construction of workplace environments, resulting in the prominence of adapting existing spaces and the re-use of materials. User empowerment to choose how and where they undertake activities is essential in supporting people's mental health, reflecting their neurodiversity and different needs.

This project reflects the demands on the current workplace that have developed over the past few years. The desire for flexible workplace settings, delivered in informal and quirky environments, has created the need for spaces with personality. It demonstrates the potential for MediaCity to be the home for young, dynamic, and flexible businesses.

A judges' visit is set for 21st February 2025 to evaluate the project within this competitive category. Winners will be announced on 3rd April 2025, at the Kimpton Clocktower Hotel in Manchester.

Established in 1990, the BCO is the UK’s foremost forum for workplace excellence. This nomination reflects the exceptional standard of design and functionality achieved in this space, and we are proud to contribute to MediaCity’s continued growth as a vibrant professional community.
