Shanghai No. 1 Department Store, once the largest in the Far East, was opened in 1934, and our renovation design reimagined the famous store while restoring it to its former glory.
Operating over 9 floors the average footfall is 150,000 shoppers a day
The old department store and two latterly added buildings total 110,000m² in retail space – the first phase, involving the restoration of the old store and the adjacent building opened in December 2017. The newest addition, the renovated former Oriental shopping centre across the road, is linked to the rest of the store by a sky-bridge, opening in February 2018.
Chapman Taylor's competition-winning renovation design for the Shanghai No. 1 Department Store was designed to help ensure the store's continuing success in the age of online shopping.
Congratulations to everyone involved in the project for this well-deserved award.
