Saint Genis 2 shopping centre opens near Lyon
The renovation and extension of Saint Genis 2 shopping centre at Saint-Genis-Laval near Lyon, France, completed in September, and new images show how the development has been transformed.
The 37,640m² centre, which houses 100 retail, leisure and F&B spaces, was first opened 36 years ago and attracted five million visitors every year. Its renovation took place in three stages over 18 months, with the aim of drawing three million extra customers with its vibrant new look and diverse range of offers.
The first phase transformed the former BHV premises into a mall with 20 shops. Phase two transformed the common areas with new entrances, a new glass roof and new green spaces while, in the final phase, existing shops were upgraded on a rolling basis. A total of 16,000m² of the centre was renovated.
The design placed a strong emphasis on creating an exciting customer experience within a sustainable scheme rooted in the local community.
Saint Genis 2 is a joint venture between Auchan and Société Générale Immobilière (LSGI). The €45 million enhancement scheme involved mostly local firms, with Chapman Taylor’s Benelux studio acting as Lead Architect in charge of the overall project and Brainjuice in charge of the customer journey.
