Chapman Taylor to redesign Gatwick’s North Terminal International Departure Lounge
Gatwick Airport have confirmed they are to appoint Chapman Taylor as the principle design architect for a substantial reconfiguration and refurbishment of Gatwick’s North Terminal International Departure Lounge. Passenger numbers using Gatwick are growing and this project will respond to the need to improve passenger experience, provide more commercial space and, through a new Interior Design theme, dramatically improve the look and feel of the IDL.
The initial design stage will start immediately with Chapman Taylor developing the concept design options in collaboration with the airport stakeholders over the next 8 weeks. The scheme is coordinated with a new land-side search and security facility which will free up airside space for a new walk through World Duty Free, an increase in retail space and an improved F&B offer.
Peter Farmer, Director at Chapman Taylor, said “Chapman Taylor is the world’s leading architectural practice for aviation retail and transportation hub environments and we are delighted to be able to bring this expertise to work on a major project at the country's second biggest airport. We have worked previously with Gatwick Airport and again look forward to supporting them to deliver their vision for Gatwick in creating a world-leading airport which rivals any other in Europe, if not the world.”
This win is yet another achievement for Chapman Taylor’s transportation sector and complements the ever expanding portfolio of transportation projects that includes many high profile schemes across the aviation industry globally. Other current aviation projects include the retail reconfiguration of Heathrow Terminal 3 International Departure Lounge (IDL), new 'refresh and relax' concepts in Heathrow Terminal 5 and the completion of the luxury ‘mall’ at the new Heathrow Terminal 2.
