Transportation: Planning approval granted for London Bridge retail ‘island’
Planning approval has been granted for our retail island scheme next to London Bridge station. The location is ideally situated with close links to some of London’s top tourist attractions including Tower Bridge, The Shard and Borough Market, whilst also providing a pedestrian through flow to London Bridge railway, underground and bus stations.
Chapman Taylor was appointed by Network Rail to redevelop the island site. At present the arches are underutilised, with a number of commercial units being unoccupied. The aim of Network Rail is to build on the tenancy demographic of this area by offering a unique proposal suitable for retail and A3 environments, improving income, tenant mix and regenerating the local area.
Our design proposal will improve the external facades, shopfronts and public realm, utilising the existing built character along Borough High Street and the Railway Approach whilst creating a more uniformed and contemporary glazed façade on the Railway Approach to maximise commercial activity and pedestrian movement.
