W Hotel Prague officially opens with a spectacular celebration – Friday 21 March

Chapman Taylor was delighted to attend the official opening party of W Hotel Prague on Friday 21 March—a landmark occasion marking the unveiling of the iconic hotel’s transformation. The event welcomed partners, guests, friends of the brand, and key stakeholders to an unforgettable evening infused with contemporary glamour and a touch of fantasy.

Now officially open, W Hotel Prague brings a bold blend of historic elegance and modern luxury to the heart of the Czech capital. The hotel is housed within the former Grand Hotel Evropa, an iconic Art Nouveau building originally opened in 1905. With 161 guestrooms and suites, the property also features signature elements including the W Lounge and a rooftop bar offering panoramic views of Prague’s skyline.

Chapman Taylor led the renovation of the hotel’s heritage areas, working within a broader collaborative architectural team. The design sought to merge Prague’s rich historical fabric with the W brand’s innovative and energetic identity. A central concept of the renovation was the ‘elixir’—a mythical nod to potions of eternal life—infused throughout the design in subtle golden hues and mystical motifs.

Continuing this enchanting theme, whimsical allusions to a ‘fantastical garden’ are woven throughout the interiors. Guests are greeted by a flowing entrance and reception area, where brass metal mesh desks contrast with restored Art Nouveau light fixtures. The adjacent atrium, featuring original 1905 stucco details and 1925 murals, now includes a stunning glass art installation that bridges past and present.

At the heart of the hotel is the vibrant W Lounge, centred around a sleek bar framed by fluted columns and surrounded by plush seating in soft blues, greens, and terracotta. Above, the rooftop bar continues the bold design narrative with bespoke joinery, colourful tiling, and custom-made furniture. The historic Grand Café, once a hotspot for Prague’s 1920s elite, has also been revived and now houses Le Petit Beefbar, the Prague outpost of Riccardo Giraudi’s Monaco-based dining brand.

Minus One, a unique underground venue, adds another dimension to the guest experience. Featuring a cocktail bar, performance space, and a hidden speakeasy tucked behind floor-to-ceiling drapes, the venue includes a private dining room complete with a shimmering golden ceiling.

The hotel’s suites are a showcase of bold design and layered textures. Among the standouts is the E-Wow Suite, a reimagined presidential suite with distinctive features including a custom-designed rug and pendant light by AvroKO. In the heritage wing, the Wow Bohemia Duplex blends original beams and arched windows with a deep grenache-toned palette, capturing the elegance of old Prague with a modern twist.

With its captivating mix of Prague’s architectural heritage and the W brand’s signature style, W Hotel Prague offers a luxurious, immersive escape for both locals and global travellers. Chapman Taylor is proud to have contributed to the rebirth of this cultural landmark—where history meets imagination.
