Wuxi Transit-Oriented Development project launched in Eastern China
On May 20, 2024, the Wuxi Metro Group unveiled its ambitious plan to enhance Wuxi Station into a major regional Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) hub with the launch of the Wuxi Gonghu Wetland Park project.
The launch event featured a panel including Chapman Taylor Shanghai Director Yi Jiang and Xiaobing Zhu from the China Urban Rail Transit Association, along with other industry experts. They discussed various TOD trends, including "TOD and Cultural Tourism," ecological design trends in TODs, and TODs centered on healthcare functions.
Yi Jiang presented Chapman Taylor’s masterplan concept for the Wuxi Gonghu Wetland Park which was originally won in competition, highlighting it as an exemplar of the next generation of TODs that seamlessly integrates station, city, landscape, and culture. Covering a total area of 260,000m2, the project blends natural landscapes with urban design, embedding buildings into the environment to create a harmonious urban setting.
The project’s design prioritises functionality, transportation, topography, and ecology, setting a new benchmark for high-quality, ecological TODs that significantly contribute to urban growth.
The design concept offers new and innovative ideas for the integrated development of urban rail stations, cities, and landscapes, providing a forward-thinking model for future urban development.
