Map Location
Kazakhstan's most extensive range of shopping and entertainment facilities
Kazakhstan’s largest shopping centre, Mega Silk Way is a gateway development to the EXPO 2017 site. Containing the country’s most extensive range of shopping and entertainment facilities, the scheme includes restaurants, a food court, a 10-screen cinema (including an IMAX screen) and many other leisure offers.
'Tree' structures support the atrium
The development is defined by two winding, retail-lined malls and an impressive entertainment leisure atrium. Graceful tree-like structures support the tall and large-span atrium, which houses a large seating area, food court, marketplace and restaurants, all with excellent views of the Expo feature building.
Set within the EXPO 2017 masterplan
The building is included within the framework of EXPO 2017 and is set to welcome 1 million visitors per month. Mega Silk Way will act as a major route from Nazarbayev University to the Expo site and be a symbol of the EXPO after it is closed, as well as becoming the city’s major family attraction. The scheme achieved BREEAM In-Use sustainability certification - "Very Good" for asset performance and "Excellent" for building management.
Chapman Taylor was Lead Architect on Mega Silk Way. Our design won the 2019 International Property Award for “Best International Retail Architecture.”
Design Concept
The development was jointly-opened by President Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan and President Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan in March 2017.
