Chapman Taylor Board Director Tim Partington to judge WAN ‘Best Modern Method of Construction Project 2017’ Award.
Chapman Taylor Board Director Tim Partington has been appointed to the jury which will choose the World Architecture News (WAN) ‘Best Modern Method of Construction (MMC) Project 2017’.
The WAN competition celebrates the use of new technology in building design and construction, including BIM, off-site manufacture, modular units, 3D printing and mechanised installation techniques, among many more. These techniques are becoming increasingly vital for being able to build more quickly and efficiently at a time of a construction labour and skills shortage.
Chapman Taylor is always exploring the latest and most efficient methods of, and tools for, design and construction in all of the industry sectors in which we operate. We have a particular interest in the use of off-site modular construction, which we see as a key tool for helping alleviate chronic housing shortages in Britain and elsewhere. Our trademarked Umbrellahaus modular housing model is a means of providing flexible and cost-efficient community housing at scale and speed.
Our Manchester studio, led by Tim, designed the 220-bed Holiday Inn Express hotel in Trafford, Manchester, constructed from purpose-built steel container pods complete with factory-finished interior fixtures and fittings, all of which were installed before being delivered to site. The modules were stacked on top of each other without the need for additional supporting structures, to enable fast installation on site. All 220 bedrooms were placed on site in less than three weeks.
We are also industry-leading experts in Building Information Modelling (BIM) - investing in cutting-edge Desktop Virtual Reality technology to further enhance the design process and allowing clients to get a clear and immersive 3D vision of their projects before and during construction.
