The urban regeneration project will modernise the square, providing a vibrant, open space for visitors and local residents to enjoy, as well as creating a new venue for events and pop-up offers.
The renewal of the plaza will ensure the better integration of the shopping centre with the wider urban fabric and create the opportunity for social and commercial activity late into the evening.
The UNIC centre was originally founded in 1945 as one of the first shopping venues in Moldova and has since grown into a major shopping centre offering five floors of retail and F&B.
The project is being designed by our Düsseldorf studio, which has award-winning experience in transforming the look and feel of urban spaces to create socially and economically successful environments which act as a catalyst for further regeneration. The team was behind the City Plaza urban renewal project in Wuppertal, Germany, which won the prestigious MAPIC Award for “Best Retail City Centre Regeneration” in November 2019.
