Chapman Taylor designing a new sustainable residential neighbourhood in Prague
Chapman Taylor is at the forefront of designing "Habitat," a new sustainable neighbourhood in Malešice, Prague. This innovative project, named after the Latin term "habitare," aims to transform a former industrial area into an attractive urban district that integrates residential living with modern technology and ecological practices.
Phase 1 of the project will deliver 124 residential units and 6 commercial units with a total area of 12,000 m²; with the residential element being 10,500 m² and retail space of 1,500 m² (including a kindergarten).
Design and sustainability features:
- Architecture: Chapman Taylor is responsible for the design of the apartment interiors, common areas, facades, and retail spaces.
- Commercial Spaces: The neighbourhood will include smaller shops, a pharmacy, a café, and eventually a restaurant, enhancing the local community's infrastructure.
- Ecosystem Integration: The project emphasises creating a vibrant ecosystem that connects people, homes, urban fauna and flora, and modern technology.
- 15-Minute City concept: Residential homes, work, and leisure activities are accessible within a 15-minute radius, promoting convenience and reducing travel time.
- Sustainability: The development meets BREEAM sustainability standards, featuring rainwater retention for irrigation, grey water recycling, heat recovery exchangers, solar panels, electric car charger preparation, and green roofs.
- Energy efficiency: Designed to be energy efficient, with practical layouts ranging from 1 to 5 bedrooms, including duplexes, lofts, and townhouses with gardens, terraces, loggias, or balconies.
“Habitat is a modern new neighbourhood that will be among the most progressive in its time, applying many current trends and sustainability features used in the best modern housing,” says Filip Pokorný, Architect at Chapman Taylor.
Chapman Taylor’s "Habitat" project is set to redefine sustainable urban living in Prague, combining innovative design with environmental consciousness to create a forward-thinking residential community. The project is scheduled to be completed in the third quarter of 2027.
