The project provides a pleasant new pedestrian and cyclist connection between Shanghai’s Putuo and Jing'an districts. The new bridge is designed to make it more convenient for pedestrians and non-motorised vehicles to cross the Suzhou River while relieving traffic congestion on the surrounding roads.
Starting from the M50 Creative Park waterfront trail in Putuo, the development connects with the surrounding municipal roads. It crosses the Suzhou River to the east, connecting with the slow-traffic riverside road and the Shanghai Railway Station Hub.
It takes the form of a pedestrian suspension bridge with a light and transparent shape, the design for which is inspired by the surrounding ecology and culture. The core bridge structure has a span of 82.5 metres and a width of 7.5 metres.
On the west bank, a hydrophilic platform subtly blends with the charming southern Yangtze River landscape; on the east bank, a viewing platform is designed as a visual signature for the bridge.
The project’s structural design is highly innovative, ensuring long-term durability while delivering a high quality space within a controlled budget. The bridge is elegantly and seamlessly integrated with the surrounding environment, bringing new vitality and convenience to this part of Shanghai's Suzhou River.
