Chapman Taylor hosted the first NW Women in Property talk: What would a city designed by women look like?
On 20th April 2023, Chapman Taylor hosted the first Women in Property (North West) Inclusion Series Talk: What would a city designed by women look like?
The event was opened by Chapman Taylor's Director Rachel Rogerson who spoke about how bad design of the built environment can negatively impact women and vulnerable people.
As part of the presentation, the Chapman Taylor team of Architect Catalina Ionita, Senior Architect Evanthia Simitsi, and Architectural Assistant Anna Loasby, debated the notion of urban planning and tactical urbanism and how they impact women and their experiences in the city. Cities that promote and adopt a gender-responsive design approach are not creating an enjoyable and safe environment only for women, but for everyone.
The talk presented the impact of Manchester as our city on women at three stages of their lives, a young 20-year-old experiencing the city through the lens of fun and nightlife, a 30-year-old who seeks to start a family in the city, and a 40-year-old going through menopause, seeking access to green open spaces to relax.
We are keen to take our study further and we would like to invite you all to participate into our survey about Manchester and our perceptions and experiences as women in the city. Please follow the link below to complete our survey:
