Chapman Taylor’s Plaza Rio 2 shopping centre receives award recognition
The Plaza Rio 2 shopping centre has been awarded the 1st Prize for the “Shopping Centre of the Future” at the Future Madrid awards, arranged by La Razón, a Madrid daily newspaper.
The inaugural Future Madrid awards gala and presentation took place on March 2nd at the Hotel Meliá Avenida de América in Madrid. Chapman Taylor’s award was presented by the President of the Assembly of Madrid, Eugenia Carballedo and the Director of La Razón, Francisco Marhuenda.
The jury intended to highlight Madrid's ability to generate entrepreneurship. The companies shortlisted for awards were selected to represent the activity that bustles in its streets and towns.
Chapman Taylor’s Madrid studio designed the architecture and interiors for Plaza Rio 2, a mixed-use retail and leisure development overlooking the River Manzanares and the Madrid Rio Park. Sustainability is a key aim of the design, which has been certified BREEAM Very Good. The centre provides an eclectic mix of fashion, food, restaurants and entertainment. Visitors are met by an elegant blond granite and glass curtain façade, with terracing and a large, transparent LED screen.
