Good progress made on construction of Eltham Cinema
Chapman Taylor is pleased to report that good progress has been made on the construction of Eltham Cinema in south London.
Work on the substructure, basement box and ground floor slab is nearly complete, and Chapman Taylor has been working with Wilmott Dixon, who are due to take over construction from Erith when the current building phase is complete in mid-November. The remaining building works are due to be completed in late 2018, and following the tenants fit-out the building will open in early 2019.
Our proposal will bring a new cinema and restaurants to Eltham High Street, in a striking building which will become a landmark for the town centre. Vue Cinemas will be the major tenant for the new building, complemented by F&B offerings from Pizza Express and Nando’s.
A ‘Sky Bar’ with an external seating terrace will wrap around the cinema, cantilevering and projecting animation onto the High Street and complementing the active street-level restaurant uses below. The curved corners to the building at Ground and First Floor levels give a subtle nod to the Art-Deco cinemas of the 1930s.
The scheme creates a leisure destination that will act as a catalyst for the wider regeneration and increased prosperity of the area, providing a new focal point in Eltham town centre.
