I’m a Celebrity... Jungle Challenge opens to thrill-seekers at Quayside MediaCityUK in Manchester

ITV’s multi-sensory, adrenaline-inducing I’m A Celebrity... Jungle Challenge has opened to adrenaline-seeking members of the public at Quayside MediaCityUK in Manchester.

The 2,500m2 indoor entertainment venue will give fans of the UK's ITV hit TV I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here the chance to test their stamina at its famous Base Camp, Croc Creek and Snake Rock areas, with a 90-minute course which includes parachute drops, climbing walls and zip wires.

Visitors are challenged to scale The Ascent, an 8.1m vertical rock climb, race across the suspended Treetop Trail, scramble through nets, face the Get a Grip challenge and soar through the treetops on a zip wire. Once the timed trials are completed, participants will get to walk across the Winners’ Bridge and sit on the famous I’m a Celebrity throne. All that is missing are the critters...

The space is configured into three zones: a gift shop/retail space fronting the mall, an attraction space filled with immersive rides and experiential installations and an amenity space which includes guest party rooms. The existing mezzanine floor has been retained and is used as a launch zone for the indoor, ceiling-mounted Spyrider – a high-speed track which flies above the jungle canopy in just 18 seconds – as well as for parachute jumps and climbing walls. The attractions are designed to appeal to a range of age groups and will cater for everyone, from families and school groups through to corporate events.

Quayside MediaCityUK

The first of its kind, this immersive attraction is set to change the dynamics of Quayside MediaCityUK. With the retail and leisure sector experiencing a profound transformation at the moment, Quayside MediaCityUK is part of a new generation of leisure and shopping destinations which are putting entertainment at the heart of the experience they offer to visitors.

Chapman Taylor worked closely with specialist creative design agency Scruffy Dog Ltd to deliver the eagerly anticipated Jungle Challenge concept, helping to consolidate Quayside MediaCityUK’s position as the social heart of MediaCityUK.

New attractions for a new generation of outlet centre

The I’m a Celebrity space is billed as the ultimate jungle encounter, featuring Main Camp, the Throne and Winners Bridge. Campmates will be challenged to face their fears and collect stars to be crowned king or queen of the jungle. The space is configured into three zones: a gift shop/retail space fronting the mall, an attraction space filled with a series of physical challenges and an amenity space including guest party rooms. The existing mezzanine floor has been retained and is used as a launch zone for the indoor Skyrider attraction, as well as for a leap of faith and climbing walls. The attractions are designed to appeal to a range of age groups, including families with older children (minimum age 8), groups of friends, school groups and corporate event organisers.

The partnership of Lifestyle Outlets with ITV is an exciting development in their goal to create a new generation of outlet centres by delivering innovative and unique leisure and shopping destinations with entertainment at their heart.

Chapman Taylor is designing the transformation of Quayside MediaCityUK for Lifestyle Outlets to help consolidate the centre’s social and economic success. We are delighted to see the “I’m a Celebrity... Jungle Challenge” take its place alongside the rest of the diverse range of leisure and entertainment offers at MediaCityUK, which will help to evolve its vibrancy and relevance as a social hub for decades to come.
