Le Spot at Evry 2 in Île-de-France wins a Janus Award from the French Institute of Design
Our client, SCC has won the prestigious 2024 Janus Award for Retail from the Institut Français du Design (French Institute of Design) for the Chapman Taylor-designed Le Spot at Evry 2 shopping centre in Île-de-France.
The annual Janus Awards, sponsored by the French Ministry of Industry and Foreign Trade, celebrate design excellence. With the rise of online shopping, shopping centres need to reinvent physical retail to compete. The jurors recognised Le Spot for greatly enhancing the shopper experience at Evry 2 by adding new leisure functions, a redesigned retail offer, and a brand-new food concept.
Le Spot is a brand-new destination created as part of the restructuring of Evry 2, a large regional shopping centre and complex in Île-de-France.
The project has created a covered square with terraces and restaurants instead of vacant offices and redeveloped the existing food and beverage area. New retail kiosks further liven the mall.
A sinusoidal canopy supported by V-shaped metal columns enhances the visual impact from the side of the Place des Terrasses. The facades are white lacquered aluminium cassettes, the lightness of which helps to limit the added weight on existing structures.
Coloured inserts also animate the facades. They are made of a translucent material backlit by LEDs, with variable intensities according to the outside ambient light and will animate the Place des Terrasses at nightfall.
Congratulations to SCC and everyone involved with the scheme for this well-deserved award.
