Retail: Our project in Bracknell is one of the UK's biggest town centre regeneration schemes
Construction progresses at speed on The Lexicon at the Bracknell Regeneration project
The new urban grain is taking shape at The Lexicon, Bracknell, on the regeneration of the Town Centre. As Executive Architects, Chapman Taylor are supporting MACE, for this £240m high quality town centre redevelopment.
The Lexicon will fundamentally change the landscape of Bracknell town centre. It will deliver a 1 million-sq ft retail, leisure and entertainment destination within landscaped public spaces, and a new social and cultural heart for the borough.
With a total construction area of 54,000m2, the new development comprises a total of eight individual building blocks, including a new M&S and Fenwick department stores, a 12 screen Cineworld cinema, restaurants and more than 60 individual retail units.
Demolition of the final two existing buildings within the scheme is now complete, the new M&S department store - the highest piece of superstructure in the project - has topped out and the superstructure for a new Fenwick department store and the cinema is finished, which means the arrangement of open streets and public squares can be clearly seen.
In addition to our role as Executive Architect, Chapman Taylor has designed and will deliver the Charles Square element of the project. Charles Square will be rebuilt and the space enclosed to create a new shopping street anchored by a major new two level Primark store, and a series of retail units. As well as new retail space, the design provides improved public links with the existing Grange Hotel and multi-storey car park.
With works began on site in April 2015 and are scheduled for completion in Spring 2017.
