Retail: The first phase of HUMA shopping in Sankt Augustin, Germany, opens
On 29 October, the first phase of the new HUMA shopping centre in Sankt Augustin, Germany, opened. The opening ceremony also marked the beginning of the demolition of the old HUMA centre and the start of construction on the second, much larger stage.
Chapman Taylor were appointed as General Planner in 2009 by Jost Hurler Beteiligungs – und Verwaltungsgesellschaft GmbH&Co.KG for the new HUMA shopping centre. The new centre shall form a bridge between the history and future of the city and create a new town centre. The new HUMA is a key project within the overall masterplan “Urbane Mitte Sankt Augustin” - part of the urban development project titled “Sankt Augustin 2025”, which sets short, medium and long-term objectives for the completion of individual buildings within the wider urban area. As part of a public participation process and open dialogue between residents and those involved in the HUMA project, three public discussion events took place between March 2010 and 2011.
When the second stage opens in the autumn of 2017, HUMA will offer 39,000 qm sales areas, 140 shops and 2,350 car parking spaces.
