Songzhuang Xiaopu Artists’ Area, Beijing, China
Chapman Taylor’s competition-winning masterplan concept for the Songzhuang Xiaopu Artists’ Area creates a special urban character appropriate for Beijing’s “Art City”, completely in synergy with the landscape. The new area will be home to a unique art community.
The 678-hectare site will host two art villages separated by an industrial area, each with its own distinct character and dynamics. Our plans will connect the two villages via a retail and leisure-lined link road which will bring a much-needed boost to the area.
The proposed new road system, including a ring road hosting key commercial and social functions, will be able to accommodate the expected traffic in a way which allows for easier access, helping to open the new art hub to the wider region.
The project will provide a suitably vibrant platform in which the local art community can flourish, while also attracting international visitors.
