Vienna: Construction begins at Huma Wien Shopping Centre
Construction has begun on the Huma Wien, a large two-level shopping centre in Simmering, the 11th district of Vienna, Austria. The original shopping centre which dates back to the 1970s has been demolished in two stages with a temporary mall being erected to enabled anchor tenants such as MediaMark, Interspar and H&M to continue to operate through the demolition process. Construction of the centre will take part in two stages with stage 1 due to be completed in 2016 and stage 2 in 2017.
With a total Gross Leasable Area of 50,000m2 the centre is spread out over 2 retail levels and will house 90 retail and food outlets and will provide 800 new jobs for the area. Good access to the A4 motorway and the outer ring has ensured the centre is equipped to cater for 2000 car parking spaces.
