Alegro Alfragide, a well-known shopping mall on the outskirts of Lisbon, Portugal, has recently reopened following a striking interior refurbishment led by Chapman Taylor. Once defined by its outdated design and lack of natural light, the mall has been transformed into a vibrant, modern destination that places the retail experience at the heart of the visitor journey.
A complete interior redesign
Chapman Taylor’s design concept focused on delivering a fresh, neutral aesthetic that shifts attention to the stores themselves. A complete interior redesign introduced a natural colour palette, while refinished skylights with high-quality wood detailing now allow natural light to flow into the space. The introduction of custom-designed lighting integrated into false ceilings enhances the architectural lines of the mall, creating a sophisticated visual rhythm.
Food court transformation
The food court underwent a major transformation, becoming a welcoming area infused with elements of nature. An industrial-style floor finish, wooden slat ceilings, and green zones with integrated furniture bring warmth and a sense of relaxation.
A new central event plaza
A highlight of the refurbishment is the central event plaza, redesigned as a flexible, dynamic space. The integration of LED screens wrapped around structural columns creates a vivid, ever-evolving digital landscape, supporting a wide variety of events and seasonal activations.
Chapman Taylor has redefined Alegro Alfragide as a contemporary and inviting retail and leisure hub, enhancing the visitor experience and offering a bright new chapter for this Lisbon landmark.

Mikel joined Chapman Taylor in 1997 and became a Director of the Madrid studio in 2003. He is now the Managing Director and takes responsibility for the general management of the studio including design, technical, financial and office administration.
With a well-established track-record, Mikel has experience on major projects across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and South America, with design expertise in retail, leisure, residential, hospitality and mixed-use developments.
Mikel se incorporó a Chapman Taylor en 1997 y se convirtió en Director del Estudio de Madrid en 2003. Hoy en día es el Director General y tiene la responsabilidad de la dirección general del Estudio (diseño, parte técnica y financiera y administración de la oficina).
La experiencia que posee Mikel se extiende por toda Europa, Medio Oriente, África y Sudamérica siendo especialista en el diseño de centros comerciales, de ocio, viviendas, hoteles y proyectos de uso mixto.

Javier joined Chapman Taylor in 2005 and was promoted to Associate Director in 2015.
He has extensive design and construction experience working on both Spanish and international projects which includes having undertaken the project and resident architect role during the construction of the recently opened Mall of Qatar.
Javier has an established track-record leading multi-disciplinary teams in the design and development of commercial, retail, hospitality and residential projects.

Javier se unió a Chapman Taylor en 2005 y fue ascendido a Director Asociado en 2015.
